An Explosive Finale to the HCMUE 2025 Student Sports Tournament

After more than a month of vibrant competition, the 2025 Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (HCMUE) Sports Tournament for Undergraduate and High School Students officially came to a close on April 20 with an outpouring of explosive emotions. From March 16 to April 20, the event brought together nearly 1,100 student-athletes from 24 affiliated units, competing across seven disciplines: futsal, volleyball, badminton, tug-of-war, sack race, chess, and swimming.

A Vibrant Atmosphere at the Closing and Awards Ceremony of the 2025 HCMUE Student Sports Tournament

The Closing and Awards Ceremony was held solemnly, with the presence of Dr. Cao Anh Tuan – Vice President of the University and Head of the Tournament Organizing Committee; representatives from sponsoring organizations; delegates from the Youth Union and Student Union; members of the Organizing Committee and referee team; along with a large number of student-athletes and attendees.

Dr. Cao Anh Tuan delivered the closing remarks, extending his congratulations to all athletes, supporters, and participating units for their contributions to the overall success of this year’s Sports Tournament.

The year 2025 marked a memorable season filled with inspiring sports stories. Making their debut appearance, the Long An Branch Campus team advanced to the men's futsal final and earned the runner-up title — an encouraging milestone for the newly established training unit. Our new champions — the History Department — claimed their title after finishing third last season, showcasing impressive progress in both skill and team spirit. Meanwhile, students from the Experimental High School set a new record by winning the tug of war competition for the third consecutive year, once again affirming their resilience and unity. In the women’s futsal category, the National Defense Education Department team delivered a stunning comeback, defeating their rivals from the Geography Department 4–0 in the final — the exact score by which they had lost in the group stage. It was a resounding victory, demonstrating superior tactics, determination, and the unyielding spirit of HCMUE’s girls..

For the first time stepping onto the competition stage, the Long An Branch Campus team sparked a wave of surprises. Each futsal match unfolded like a vivid story that found its beautiful final chapter in the triumph of the History Department.

At the Closing and Awards Ceremony, the Organizing Committee presented 4 championship cups and 118 sets of medals across 7 sports and 19 competition categories. In addition, awards were also given to outstanding teams and individuals for their remarkable performances.

The Experimental High School’s three-year streak as tug-of-war champions - a testament to the power of collective spirit.

For the girls of the National Defense Education Department, victory lies not only in the gold trophy but also in their persistent efforts.

This story has further fueled the determination to compete and achieve outstanding results in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025). Today’s young generation at HCMUE is also striving to train diligently, continuing the legacy of previous generations in defending and building the nation. Beyond the impressive achievements of the athletes and sports teams, this Tournament left lasting memories thanks to enthusiastic yet graceful cheering, professional organization, and the athletes’ spirit of fair play.

Dr. Cao Anh Tuan, along with other delegates, presented awards to outstanding teams and individuals.

The Tournament was not only about the results but also served as a journey affirming the spirit of discipline, growth, and unity within the university’s student community. It also provided an opportunity for young people to promote the movement of "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Hồ". According to the plan, following the Sports Tournament, the university will continue to organize the cross-country running competition on May 18, 2025, expected to attract over 1,000 undergraduate and high school students.  This event will further spread the message of healthy living, positivity, and daily exercise.
