After three days of intense competition from November 28th to December 1st, the Physics Olympiad team from Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (HCMUE) delivered an outstanding performance, winning seven individual awards and securing the first place on the overall medal tally at the 26th National Students Physics Olympiad (SPhO).
Hosted by the University of Science, Thai Nguyen University, the competition attracted 44 teams comprising 260 students and over 100 lecturers from universities and academies across the country.
The National Students Physics Olympiad is an annual academic competition jointly organized by the Vietnam Physical Society and universities and junior colleges nationwide. It serves as an intellectual platform aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning of physics, while also offering opportunities for students and lecturers to connect, exchange knowledge, and share academic experiences in the field.
At the competition, students competed in three categories: multiple-choice, problem-solving, and experimental tasks. The content primarily focused on general physics as taught at the tertiary level throughout Vietnam, with an emphasis on practical applications.
The HCMUE Physics Olympiad team was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Duc Tam, Head of the Physics Department, as Team Leader, and Dr. Nguyen Huynh Duy Khang, lecturer, as Deputy Team Leader, accompanied by five student competitors. Demonstrating dedicated preparation and strong determination, the team achieved the following results:
- Second Prize in the Multiple-Choice category: A team of three students, Nguyen Dinh Thanh Duy, Chau Bao Khoa, and Diep Tuong Vy.
- First Prize in the Experimental category: A team of two students, Le Duc Toan and Nguyen Trung Minh.
- Problem-Solving category: Chau Bao Khoa won First Prize; Nguyen Dinh Thanh Duy won Second Prize.
Over the years, HCMUE Physics Department has consistently organized student participation in the National Students Physics Olympiad, achieving numerous high honors. This latest success once again affirms the university’s strong reputation and training quality overall, as well as the excellence of its Physics and Natural Sciences education in particular.
